STUDENT ADVISORY COUNCIL UPDATES AND HIGHLIGHTS |

The Student Advisory Council (SAC) invites you to participate in student surveys. Each survey takes 3-5 minutes and helps inform how to make schools better for high schoolers. If wanted, your response and information will be kept anonymous.

2026 "Step Into the Light" Creative Contest - Enter to win Airpod Max headphones and $300
The Cow Palace is hosting a creative competition to celebrate the birthday of Dr. King with a focus on “speaking out” and encouraging youth to share their voice respectfully and effectively. The contest celebrates and builds on Dr. King’s historic Cow Palace appearance. Entries should be respectful to all cultures, races, religions, and orientations, and be uplifting and inspiring. Entries can include essays, poetry, videos and fine art.
Students will submit work to the Cow Palace where it will be displayed in an exhibit and reception open to the public on Wednesday, Feb. 11th from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. All SFUSD high school students are invited to enter. Entry is free.
Deadline to enter: Jan. 23, 2026 at 6 p.m.

You are invited to the 2026 Climate Action Youth Summit! This event showcases the work of San Francisco youth, fostering peer-to-peer learning, inspiring young people, and celebrating the passion, creativity, and innovation driving climate action.

Experience Fashion Innovation at Levi’s® Eureka Innovation Lab
SFUSD High Schoolers are invited to step inside the Levi’s® Innovation Lab in San Francisco for a half-day workshop led by Levi's employees to inspire connection in the space between sustainable fashion and hands-on sewing/maker skills to upcycle existing clothes. Participants will receive free passes to the Super Bowl Experience at Moscone Center during Super Bowl week.
Date: Saturday, Jan. 26, 2026 from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Location: 140 Chestnut Street
San Francisco, CA
*Lunch is included, and transportation support is available if needed.

Resources from SF.gov for students ages 14 and up. Highlight's include:
- Mission Bit's Free Spring Coding Classes: Offering Intro to Game Design and Intro to Python. Applications are due by Jan. 11, 2026.
- Youth Empowerment Fund (YEF) Project Grants: YEF awards the San Francisco's youth with up to $10,000 to support a wide range of youth-led projects including, (but not limited to) school clubs, small businesses, nonprofit organizations, etc. Applications are due by Jan. 12, 2026.

Food Resources During Winter Break
From Dec. 22 through Jan. 4, Student Nutrition Services will not be serving meals at any schools. You can find available food resources around the city during the break at sfusd.edu/foodresources including:
- The San Francisco-Marin Food Bank is operating temporary Pop-up Pantries. Use the Food Locator to find sites near you. The time and location of Pop-up Pantries may change.
- Visit San Francisco Human Services Agency at sfhsa.org/services/food or call (415) 557-5000 for information on food services including free food locations.
